The bottom line is – First aid saves lives!!! Therefore, empowering children with these skills can be potentially life-saving.
First aid training provides children with a valuable knowledge for dealing with medical emergencies they may be faced. The benefits of learning first aid skills are huge and as a parent, I know if my children were ever in a situation where there was a medical emergency, I would want them to do all they could to help.
1. Teach them how to be calm (or clamer) in an emergency situation. Anyone at any age can panic when they realise that something is wrong, however, knowing some basic first aid skills can make you less fearful when the unexpected happens.
2. Teach them how to make judgement calls. We can’t expect a young person to know how to use everything in first aid kit, but teaching them the basics will help them to recognise what equipment may help.
3. A fun and enriching experience for them. Learning First Aid skills will give children a buzz. Our training is fun and useful.
4. First aid has been reported to be a favourite subject amongst students when it has been incorporated in PSHE sessions in school.
5. Boosts children’s confidence. Doing training outside of school encourages children to mingle with others and when they engage in activities, it gives them a sense of achievement and help with social interaction, which will boost their confidence.
6. First aid is an opportunity to build a child’s vocabulary and engage their curiosity about medical issues.
7. They could potentially save someone’s life!!
“Start them young” definitely applies to first aid learning.
